OpenElections Announces $25,000 Grant from Craig Newmark Philanthropies
OpenElections is proud to announce a grant of $25,000 from Craig Newmark Philanthropies in support of its work to obtain, convert and publish official precinct-level election results. With the funds, OpenElections will focus on the 2020 primary and general elections, producing results data for races at the federal and state level.
"With the support of Craig Newmark Philanthropies, OpenElections can make significant progress on building a unique collection of official precinct results from the primaries and the general election this year," said Derek Willis, a co-founder of OpenElections.
Relying on a network of volunteers, OpenElections is a non-profit effort that requires communication with dozens of state and local election authorities as well as technical expertise to aid in converting election results stored in image-based files into machine-readable data that can be used by journalists and researchers. All of the information gathered and published by OpenElections is made freely available on the Internet.
